Snow Geese at Middle Creek

Snow Geese at Middle Creek

Each year in early spring, thousands of migrating Snow Geese arrive to Middle Creek Wildlife Management area in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Spending their days foraging on the corn fields and roosting at night on the lake, these geese refuel before heading out on their last push north.

Join Emily Carter Mitchell in this exciting birding class in Pennsylvania. We'll head up to Lancaster County to capture the thousands of Snow Geese on their migratory route in Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area.

We'll begin with an overview of how to photograph birds in a variety of settings along with tips and techniques for best results.

We will then spend our time observing and capturing them staying through sunset.

Topics include:

  • The type of equipment best suited for wildlife photography
  • The selection of ISO and shutter speeds to maximizing your camera’s ability to capture birds in action.
  • How to observe wildlife in action and discover their patterns and habits.
  • How to pan and shoot with a moving subject.
  • Framing compelling compositions.

Recommended Equipment:

  • DSLR or camera with the longest focal range available. 400mm is ideal but if you have longer bring it.
  • Extra memory card(s) and battery
  • Tripod with gimbal type head (if available)

If you would like to carpool from the Metro DC area, please send an email to Marie Joabar at info@capitalphotographycenter.com and she'll help coordinate it. As of late December, we have one interested person who would like to do this.

Class limit: 10
