Rock Creek Park Adventure

Rock Creek Park Adventure

The green valley of Rock Creek Park is an oasis within the busy urban setting of Washington D.C. This section of Rock Creek Park offers rapids and also is home of three historic bridges, including the Boulder Bridge where Franklin D. Roosevelt claimed to have lost his signet ring.

Designed for any level of adventurous photographer, we will concentrate on making thoughtful choices for compelling compositions.

The rapids will allow for a variety of perspectives and opportunities to learn the usage of filters for long exposures to create silky waters. Whether we create sweeping landscape images or getting in close and personal to nature this adventure will be relaxing and informative.

Any camera is suitable for this class but traveling light and learning how to make the most of what we have in hand is the focus.

This hike is an easy 2-mile walk on well-designed trails. If interested in getting to the water’s edge, prepare for rock scrambling.

Topics include

- The use of filters including Polarizers, Graduated Neutral Density, and Neutral Density if you have them. (These filters allow us to use long exposures in daylight to blur the water in the falls.)
- Emphasis will be on keeping things simple with camera settings, while developing a fresh eye for compelling nature compositions.
- Preparation for photography for trail and travel.
- Setting exposure controls for the “look” you’re after.

A tripod is highly recommended for this class to give you the most creative options for capturing the water with long exposures.

Class limit: 10
