Hampden is a close-knit neighborhood in Baltimore that is known for housing many of the mill workers along the Jones Falls at the turn of the century. Join Instructor Lewis Katz and explore a Hampden neighborhood in transition where the past and present collide.
We’ll have opportunities to photograph the older fading industrial areas as well as the colorful stone homes in the area. If we are in luck the glass blowing studio will be open as well.
Lewis will also lead the group to a hidden area filled with colorful graffiti and a view of the river.
Although this is a general field shoot we will be concentrating on thinking in black and white as well as creative composition.
Topics include:
- Learning to "see" in black and white
- How to create unique images that stand out
- Looking for the intimate details in urban scenes
- Effective street photography
A week after the field shoot students will join Lewis in a 60-75 minute Zoom session for an image review.
Recommended gear: DSLR or mirrorless camera with a range from wide-angle to telephoto like 24mm to 200mm. Tripods are optional.
Class limit: 7
NOTE - Students will be required to follow COVID-19 Safety Practices, conduct a Self-Screening Health Assessment and sign a Waiver of Liability prior to attending a class. These items can be reviewed on the class registration page.
