Creative Garden Photography in Brandywine Valley

Join instructor Lori Lankford for a fall day spent in the beautiful Delaware Brandywine Valley visiting both the Mt Cuba Nature Center and Winterthur Gardens.

The day will start at Mt Cuba with a nature trail walk focused on capturing texture, fall colors and native plants. In the afternoon students will visit the spectacular gardens at Winterthur House and Gardens. 

Mt Cuba is a public garden dedicated to native plants and ecological gardening, it won the top spot in USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for “Best Botanical Garden” in North America. Winterthur is home to 1,000 acres of protected meadows, woodlands, ponds, and waterways. The 60-acre garden, designed by du Pont, is among America’s best, with magnificent plantings and massive displays of color throughout the year. 

Explore these beautuful locations with Lori and learn tips and techniques to creatively capture floral and garden images. 

Accessibility: Mt Cuba is composed of rolling terrain and mulched paths, access to even terrain is limited. At Winterthur, we’ll find of well-marked paths and trails.

Recommended Gear: All camera types are welcome but participants should be familiar with them and be able to control the settings. Lenses in the range of 18mm-150mm would work well.  A macro lens is ideal but is not required. Close up filters or extension tubes are also good to have on hand if you have them but they are not required.  Tripods are optional.

Participants should be familiar with camera and be able to control the exposure and focus settings.  

Fee includes entrance fees of for both locations.

NOTE - Despite the relaxed mask mandates, all students and instructors, including those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19, AGREE TO WEAR A FACE MASK during the class and maintain a 6' distance when possible.

Lori Lankford

Lori Lankford is a photographer specializing in macro, flower and landscape photography. Her passion for photography began as a way to capture her personal travel adventures. Over the years she dived into the fine details of macro and flower photography.  She loves to escape so deeply into the details of a tiny object. Lori spends her free time in local gardens across the country shooting in the natural light and capturing its beauty.  Lori’s work has been exhibited in local and national gallery exhibits as well as in printed calendars and catalogs.

Class Cancellation Policy

  • A refund or a credit towards another class (less a $20 processing fee) can be given if cancellation notice is given more than 5 business days from the scheduled class.
  • If there is no cancellation notice, or it is given 5 business days or less, no refund or credit will be given.
  • Please check the name and date of the class carefully. Requests to reschedule a class will incur a $20 processing fee provided notice is given more than 5 business days prior to the class. If request to reschedule is given less than business 5 days prior to the class, no refund or credit will be given.
  • If Capital Photography Center cancels or postpones a class due to weather or low enrollment, you can choose a full refund or a credit towards a future class.
