Maryland offers a variety of beautiful waterfalls that are just waiting to be discovered, and Cunningham Falls in the Catoctin Mountains is nature at its best.
Located north of Frederick, Maryland, Cunningham Falls State Park is the home of Maryland’s highest cascading waterfall. Boasting 78 feet tall, Cunningham Falls is easily reached by a short hike and the lush late spring colors will enhance its beauty.
The park has a 43-acre lake, camping area, and is home to Cunningham Waterfall. Offering sweeping landscapes with the lake, and a meandering trail through the woods filled with wildlife and nature, a variety of nature compositions can be found.
This class will focus on learning how using filters can lead to slow exposures that create silky water effects. Along with developing your slow exposure skills, in-depth compositional techniques for nature photography will be emphasized.
Designed for any level of adventurous photographer, we will concentrate on making thoughtful choices for compelling compositions and creating slow exposure captures.
- How Neutral Density and Circular Polarizer filters are used in nature photography.
- Technical aspects including camera settings, the histogram, understanding light, and composition.
- Creative composition for compelling nature captures.
- Photography preparation for trail and travel.
This adventure is on uneven and rocky terrain. Boulder stepping is necessary near the water’s edge. The estimated distance is 1 ½ miles on both paved, unpaved and rocky trails.
Recommended Equipment: Digital camera with a zoom lens in the 18- 105mm range and a sturdy tripod (required for slow exposures).
NOTE: The park charges an Out-of-State visitor entrance fee of $7.00. In-State is $5.00. Exact cash is preferred.
