Smartphone Field Shoot - Springtime Around The Capitol

Smartphone Field Shoot - Springtime Around The Capitol

Enjoy capturing images with your phone on a field shoot that’s designed to spark creativity!  Join Michael Koren and photograph the Capitol building and its surroundings in the beautiful early morning light. Isolate the dome against the blue sky or choose to creatively frame it with spring blossoms.  We'll enjoy working around the whole area and come away with images of the Monument and Mall as well.

The class will start with basic instruction on the operation of the native mobile phone’s camera. We’ll then cover some of the more advanced features of setting focus and exposure independently.

We’ll explore how to turn the mobile camera’s limitations such as one lens, fixed aperture, no zoom and a small sensor to advantages using creative techniques of focus, exposure and composition.

You’ll create pictures on an easily paced photo walk with guided instruction coupled with gentle critique and suggestions to make your pictures the best they can be. Later, after a bit of time dedicated to editing for the best results (using the native camera editing tools) we’ll share with each other our creative vision the photos created earlier in the day.

Note - This class varies from the Getting Started in SmartPhone Photography class in that we will not be working with any apps, only the native camera capture and editing tools. In the Getting Started class, we’ll cover the basics of your native phone capture capabilities but also explore how we can creatively edit our photos with various apps. Additionally, this is more of a shooting class with a smaller amount of time set aside to cover the capture/editing tools and critique. The Getting Started class goes into greater detail on the capture and editing aspects and we spend less time actually shooting.

This class is appropriate for all mobile phone cameras. No additional apps needed. There are no prerequisites, either class is fine for the beginner or the long-time user just wanting to get more creative in their compositions or their editing.

Participants will need to bring a fully charged smartphone.

Class limit: 10
