Create Impressionistic Images in the Garden

This course includes a 1.5-hour Zoom session covering photoshop techniques for editing the garden images.

Join instructor Lori Lankford for the course Create Impressionistic Images in the Garden at Brookside Gardens. Using the garden as our studio Lori will teach you how to create Monet-like impressionistic images. 

We will explore camera techniques to create these beautiful images. How to use the light and composition to enhance our masterpieces. The course also includes a post-class 1.5 hour Zoom session (on Tuesday 5/25 at 7pm) to learn how to apply final editing techniques to the images using Photoshop (No knowledge of Photoshop is required.) 

Lori will cover: 

  • How to photograph images using a variety of techniques to create beautiful photographic paintings. 
  • How to navigate natural light
  • How to edit images in Photoshop for additional creativity
  • How to blend multiple images together in Photoshop for an artistic look. 

This is a hands-on outdoor class where we will explore in the gardens, using the garden as our canvas to create artistic images. Students will come away with techniques to use in any natural setting. 

  • A DSLR or mirrorless camera is required for this course and strong working knowledge of your camera and manual settings.  Lenses in the range of 50mm-150mm would work well. A tripod is not required but recommended. 
  • Access to Adobe Photoshop will be needed for the 5/25 Zoom editing session. No knowledge of Photoshop is required.

Class limit: 6

The class fee includes a supply bag (for you to keep) with tools, such as spray water bottle and shoot through materials (lace, metal tubing, and fabric) to add creativity while photographing. 

NOTE - Students will be required to follow COVID-19 Safety Practices, conduct a Self-Screening Health Assessment and sign a Waiver of Liability prior to attending a class. These items can be reviewed on the class registration page.

Lori Lankford

Lori Lankford is a photographer specializing in macro, flower and landscape photography. Her passion for photography began as a way to capture her personal travel adventures. Over the years she dived into the fine details of macro and flower photography.  She loves to escape so deeply into the details of a tiny object. Lori spends her free time in local gardens across the country shooting in the natural light and capturing its beauty.  Lori’s work has been exhibited in local and national gallery exhibits as well as in printed calendars and catalogs.

Cancellation Policy for registrations after June 1, 2020

  • When canceling a class, we would prefer and appreciate as much notice as possible.
  • If you are feeling ill, are exposed to a person who has COVID-19, or answer yes to any of the questions on the Self Screening Health Assessment, we ask that you stay home. Our policy for these situations is that you can choose a credit code for the full amount of your purchase which can be applied toward the purchase of any future in-person class.
  • If there is another shutdown due to the Pandemic and a class is canceled due to that, we will issue a credit code for the full amount of your purchase which can be applied toward the purchase of any future class.
  • If we cancel a class due to low registration, you can choose a credit toward a future class or a full refund.
  • Students wishing to switch classes or dates will need to give 5 days notice. At this time there will be no fee to change.
