Ethan Meurlin
Ethan is a wildlife and landscape photographer who grew up in Northern Virginia and returned after college. A natural storyteller, he has always turned to the outdoors as a way to slow down and recharge. His appreciation for the beauty of nature and its ability to help us slow down and recharge was solidified one summer in college when he took an Outward Bound trip in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness of Montana.
That three week Outward Bound trip helped Ethan realize that we often see the world only superficially - a large barren meadow in fall, a partly cloudy morning, the ordinary site of a pair of Canada geese in a pond.
In his classes, Ethan teaches his students how to see these moments in the world around them more regularly. In reality, that meadow is full of tiny sprigs of fall flowers; that partly cloudy morning has a splendid palette of colors from purples and reds, to blues and greys; and those geese are swimming by fall goldenrod, tickseed sunflowers, and golden asters. The story deepens when we learn to slow down and notice these added elements and then include them in our photography.
Ethan teaches the following classes for Capital Photography Center:
