Sunrise and Early Morning Winter Light at the Tidal Basin

Sunrise and Early Morning Winter Light at the Tidal Basin

The monuments and memorials along the Tidal Basin are beautiful anytime of day but especially when you can frame them just before and after sunrise.

Improve your landscape skills with the master of Landscape photography, the talented Judy Graham! Judy will help you capture exciting images of the Washington Monument, the MLK Memorial, and the FDR Memorial in the early morning winter light. If Mother Nature cooperates, we'll capture the sun rising over the Jefferson Memorial.

Throughout the morning Judy will be making recommendations and will help you see and create unique and compelling images.

Emphasis will be on composition elements, such as framing, leading lines, curves, shapes, and so much more. Judy will also give tips for capturing long exposures to blur the water and clouds to set off the memorials more.

Recommended Gear: A DSLR or mirrorless camera, lenses in the range from 18-200mm, a circular polarizer, a neutral density filter as well as a graduated ND if you have one those. Tripods are highly recommended.

Students should be familiar with their camera and be able to control exposure in either aperture or manual mode.

COVID-19 Safety Practices: The gardens require guests to follow current CDC guidelines regarding masks and social distancing.
