Exploring Headshot Photography

Join Laura Hatcher in her photography studio in Old Town, Alexandria and learn the basics of how to conduct an indoor-studio headshot session. This hands-on class provides photographers an opportunity to learn how to light, photograph, pose, and interact with headshot clients.

Topics include:

  • Gear considerations to include camera, lighting, modifiers and post production software
  • How to build a headshot portfolio and generate leads
  • Posing, photographing and capturing authentic expressions WITH HEADSHOTS.

Come away from this class with a basic understanding of how to create a professional headshot.

Laura Hatcher

Laura Hatcher is an award winning and published event, headshot and portrait photographer based in Alexandria, Virginia. She started her photographic journey while on active duty with the United States Navy. Laura, now a retired Naval Officer, opened a small studio in the heart of Old Town, Alexandria and is enjoying her second career as a full time photographer.  She continues to serve the Veteran community with her headshot and military ceremony photography.

Laura’s work has been featured in the Washington Post, Architectural Digest, Forbes Magazine, VIP Alexandria Magazine, and several college Alumni magazines. Her clients have included: The City of Alexandria, Visit Alexandria, The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association (her Alma Mater), The US Capitol Historical Society, and Texas A&M The Bush School of Government and Public Service.  Laura's work can be seen at: www.laurahatcherphotography.com

Class Cancellation Policy

  • A refund or a credit towards another class (less a $20 processing fee) can be given if cancellation notice is given more than 5 business days from the scheduled class.
  • If there is no cancellation notice, or it is given 5 business days or less, no refund or credit will be given.
  • Please check the name and date of the class carefully. Requests to reschedule a class will incur a $20 processing fee provided notice is given more than 5 business days prior to the class. If request to reschedule is given less than business 5 days prior to the class, no refund or credit will be given.
  • If Capital Photography Center cancels or postpones a class due to weather or low enrollment, you can choose a full refund or a credit towards a future class.
