Jorge E. Bañales
Jorge is a Uruguayan-born, DC based multidisciplinary artist working in photography, writing, video, and music. With a background in journalism, translation, and design, he brings a storyteller’s eye to his visual work.
He holds an MFA in Visual & Performing Arts (Photography) and a BA in English from George Mason University, as well as design degrees from Northern Virginia Community College.
His photography ranges from moody black-and-white mobile images to vibrant, urban and suburban landscapes captured with a mirrorless cameras.
His work explores themes of place, solitude, and overlooked beauty, often focusing on city dwellers, everyday moments, and abandoned environments. His projects—such as In the City, Night People, and Nearby Parks—have been featured in exhibitions at George Mason University and Anne Arundel Community College, and published in Dodho Magazine, DCist, and Washington City Paper.
Also an accomplished bassist and sound artist, he continues to expand his creative voice across mediums.
