This class provides photographers who aspire to take professional headshots with an opportunity to learn how to attract, book, communicate to, and manage headshot clients from inquiry to delivery of images.  Join Laura Hatcher in her Photography Studio and practice how to interact with a client during a headshot session.
Topics include:
- Gear considerations
- Building a portfolio
- Lead generation sources
- Booking methods
- Pre-session admin and preparation
- Tips for the actual shooting session 
- Post-session practices
- Delivery to client 
- And more

(Pleae note - This class isn’t designed to teach you how to take a headshot, but everything else that goes into it.)  

Note – Students have the option to attend the class in person or via Zoom. When registering, please state your preference. There are 4 spots available in-person and 4 available via Zoom. Both are first come, first served.

Laura Hatcher

Laura Hatcher is an award winning and published event, headshot and portrait photographer based in Alexandria, Virginia. She started her photographic journey while on active duty with the United States Navy. Laura, now a retired Naval Officer, opened a small studio in the heart of Old Town, Alexandria and is enjoying her second career as a full time photographer.  She continues to serve the Veteran community with her headshot and military ceremony photography.

Laura’s work has been featured in the Washington Post, Architectural Digest, Forbes Magazine, VIP Alexandria Magazine, and several college Alumni magazines. Her clients have included: The City of Alexandria, Visit Alexandria, The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association (her Alma Mater), The US Capitol Historical Society, and Texas A&M The Bush School of Government and Public Service.  Laura's work can be seen at:

Class Cancellation Policy

  • A refund or a credit towards another class (less a $20 processing fee) can be given if cancellation notice is given more than 5 business days from the scheduled class.
  • If there is no cancellation notice, or it is given 5 business days or less, no refund or credit will be given.
  • Please check the name and date of the class carefully. Requests to reschedule a class will incur a $20 processing fee provided notice is given more than 5 business days prior to the class. If request to reschedule is given less than business 5 days prior to the class, no refund or credit will be given.
  • If Capital Photography Center cancels or postpones a class due to weather or low enrollment, you can choose a full refund or a credit towards a future class.
