Join Laura Hatcher in her photography studio in Old Town, Alexandria and learn the basics of how to conduct an indoor-studio headshot session. This hands-on class provides photographers an opportunity to learn how to light, photograph, pose, and interact with headshot clients.
- Gear considerations to include camera, lighting, modifiers and post production software
- How to build a headshot portfolio and generate leads
- Posing, photographing and capturing authentic expressions WITH HEADSHOTS.
Come away from this class with a basic understanding of how to create a professional headshot.
Students should bring their DSLR or Mirrorless camera, lenses such as 50mm on a crop sensor camera, 85mm on a full frame camera or any lens in the range of 24-70mm. Tripods are optional

Laura Hatcher is an award winning and published event, headshot and portrait photographer based in Alexandria, Virginia. She started her photographic journey while on active duty with the United States Navy. Laura, now a retired Naval Officer, opened a small studio in the heart of Old Town, Alexandria and is enjoying her second career as a full time photographer. She continues to serve the Veteran community with her headshot and military ceremony photography.
Laura’s work has been featured in the Washington Post, Architectural Digest, Forbes Magazine, VIP Alexandria Magazine, and several college Alumni magazines. Her clients have included: The City of Alexandria, Visit Alexandria, The United States Naval Academy Alumni Association (her Alma Mater), The US Capitol Historical Society, and Texas A&M The Bush School of Government and Public Service.
