Framing the Festive - Holiday Market Photo Walk

Framing the Festive - Holiday Market Photo Walk

Capture the festive excitement of the holiday season immersed in DC’s iconic Downtown Holiday Market on F Street. Join Joe Bucherer and navigate outdoor low-light environments and street crowds to photograph stunning imagery.

Joe will also help you refine your eye for composition and master your camera’s low-light controls!

Joe will cover techniques for:
- Photographing Street performances (as available)
- Capturing vendors in their element
- Using reflections for unique captures
- Turning background holiday lights into dreamy bokeh

With luck we may have the opportunity to photograph food trucks with rising steam for “shoot through” opportunities.

Whether you shoot with a DSLR, mirrorless camera, or advanced point-and-shoot, join us and bring your creative energy!

Recommended Gear: Lenses in the range of 24-200mm are ideal. Primes such as 35mm, 50mm, 85mm will work well too, especially in low light. Tripods are optional. They may be cumbersome in the tighter areas in the market but would be great for wider shots and long shutter speeds scenes.

Prerequisites: Students should be familiar with their cameras and have a good understanding of basic exposure controls (setting ISO, shutter speed and aperture).

Joe Bucherer

As an educator, Joe champions a "slow photography" approach, encouraging students to pause, appreciate their surroundings, and have fun. Above all, he teaches the importance of shooting with intention rather than relying on post shoot editing.
